On May 18, Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, conducted a research visit in Beijing on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with advanced manufacturing. Premier Li emphasized, "We must promote the deep integration of AI with advanced manufacturing, adhere to innovation-driven development, highlight an application-oriented approach, actively facilitate the iterative upgrading of intelligent robots, and vigorously advance the comprehensive and in-depth empowerment of manufacturing by AI."
At the exhibition site of the Yizhuang Robot World, Direct Drive Tech's D1 robot caught Premier Li's attention and prompted him to stop and inquire about it. This was largely due to its core advantages, including modular assembly, seamless switching between wheeled and legged locomotion, and autonomous collaborative operations.

As the world's first fully modular embodied intelligent robot, the D1 breaks through the limitations of traditional robot form factors:
- Versatile Morphology: It supports rapid assembly and disassembly in various configurations, such as wheel-legged to wheel-legged or legged to legged, adapting to complex terrains and diverse tasks;
- Powerful Locomotion: Equipped with self-developed integrated joint modules and direct-drive hub motors, it delivers precise, smooth, and low-noise motion with industry-leading payload capacity;
- Advanced Coordination: Powered by proprietary general cerebellum technology, it achieves millisecond-level synchronization between modules. Even when separated, the two units can still collaborate precisely and operate efficiently;
- Comprehensive Perception: Capable of integrating LiDAR and depth cameras, it enables 360° environmental recognition, automatic obstacle avoidance, and autonomous posture recovery, ensuring stable operation across all scenarios.
During the live demonstration, staff showcased the D1 robot's assembly, disassembly, obstacle-crossing, agile jumping, as well as its applications in short-distance transport and delivery. Premier Li inquired about the breakthroughs in core technologies, industrialization progress, and real-world scenario implementation. He encouraged the company to continuously strengthen research on key core technologies, accelerate the large-scale application of new technologies and products, and iterate and optimize them through practical application.
Premier Li also noted that government departments and state-owned enterprises should be encouraged to open up application scenarios to facilitate pilot testing and validation of new technologies and products. He expressed support for the scaled application of intelligent robots on the premise of ensuring safety, urging continuous problem identification, resolution, and improvement through practical use.
